Jonathan Malpass

Left school in 2009

Currently studying BA (Hons) Primary Teaching at Hull University Scarborough Campus

Jonathan Malpass came to Rye Hills School from Derby at the start of Year 9. He was considered a 'middle of the road' student in regards to targeted grades but despite this he left school with a total of 13 GCSE passes under his belt including Maths, English, Science, R&L, Geography, Art, and Sociology. He also gained his JSLA (Junior Sport Leader Award) and completed a course in Motorbike Mechanics.

In Year 10 Jonathan was sent to Newcomen Primary School for his Work Experience placement. He had no interest in teaching at this stage and generally no idea what he wanted to do as a career but went along determined to make the most out of the two weeks. The fortnight turned out to be a huge success and a life changing experience, he received a lot of positive feedback from staff he worked alongside and it made him realise exactly what he wanted to do with his life which was to become a Primary School Teacher.

Jonathan left Rye Hills School and enrolled at Prior Pursglove College to study A Level Maths, Geography, Applied ICT and CSLA (Community Sports Leader Award). In his free time he volunteered to work in John Emmerson Batty Primary School and occasionally supported the SEND Department at Rye Hills when they went on school trips.

Currently completing the second year of his Degree in Primary Education at Hull University Jonathan says he is a big believer in voluntary work and work experience. If he hadn't gone on the work experience placement to sample life as a Primary School Teacher he is certain he would not be where he is today. He has continued to work with young people as much as possible including teaching football in local clubs, helping out a youth groups and volunteering at Badger Hill Primary School in Brotton whenever he is home from University. He looks forward to his final year at University and a career in teaching.
